Papyrus Lounge loses business license after 2 homicides

The restaurant where two men were shot dead in Edmonton has had its business license revoked.

A city committee cancelled the license for the Papyrus Lounge at 11124 107th Ave., during a meeting on Thursday night, six months after a 31-year-old man was shot and killed and three years after a 23-year-old man was shot in the early morning hours of New Year's Day.

The shootings shocked the community and raised safety concerns for those who call the central Edmonton neighbourhood home.

"107th avenue is sort of the front face of our neighbourhood," said Randy Shuttleworth, president of the Queen Mary Park community league.

"I'm happy that particular business is not going to be there and causing those safety concerns," he said.

Queen Mary Park is one of the neighbourhood's on the city of Edmonton's revitalization list, meaning they are receiving millions of dollars to improve safety and quality of life in the area.
