Paul Gascoigne Had 14 Lines Of Cocaine Before Taking Chicken And Fishing Rod To Raoul Moat
Paul Gascoigne has revealed why he went to the aid of murderer Raoul Moat.
The former England and Tottenham Hotspur footballer spoke about the bizarre incident for the first time on Sunday night.
In July 2010, Gascoigne, in his dressing gown, tried to bring chicken and a fishing rod to Moat, who was engaged in an armed stand-off with police in Rothbury, Northumberland.
Moat had shot his ex-girlfriend Samantha Stobbart, her boyfriend Chris Brown - who was killed - and police officer David Rathband before hiding out at Riverside, Rothbury.
The police hunt for Moat lasted almost seven days until he shot and killed himself.
Gascoigne, 48, a recovering addict, spoke about the incident at an “Evening with Paul Gascoigne” talk at the Tyne Theatre in Newcastle on Sunday, telling a laughing crowd how he was high on drugs.
He recalled: ““Raoul Moat? You’ve got to realise I’m half cut anyway, sitting in the living room, I’ve got about six lines [of cocaine] lined up.
“I’m not realising much but a good line and me and Raoul Moat are sort of friends. A couple more lines and we are good buddies.”
“A few whiskies, another few lines, I’ve had about eight lines and me and f***ing Raoul Moat went to school together, me and him.”
Gascoigne continued: “And even better he was in Rothbury, that’s where I used to go fishing so I know the area quite well.
“Another line and I have a couple of fishing rods and a f***ing chicken. So I got me chicken and I think f***, he’s going to need a drink. I’ve had 14 lines. Now he’s my brother.”
Gascoigne said he got a taxi at 10pm at night to the area of the stand-off, but police refused to let him in.
He returned home and fell asleep, he said. When he woke up the next morning there were 250 missed calls and texts on his mobile phone.
He said: “I was like — what have I done? I’ve got a chicken by my side, fishing rods, a Barbour, I’m like f*** me I must have done something.
“I put on Sky News — Paul Gascoigne was there last night.”
