Peace River RCMP officer facing assault charge

RCMP to face new class-action harassment lawsuit, this time on behalf of male employees

A Peace River RCMP officer is facing a criminal charge over an allegation that a prisoner was assaulted while he was being transported from Manning to Peace River.

Cpl. Mark Potts faces one count of assault causing bodily harm. He was suspended from duty this month and will remain off-duty until the court case is resolved.

The assault is alleged to have occurred April 15, and was reported by a fellow officer five days later. The charges were laid on Oct. 14, but Alberta RCMP are now releasing the details.

Potts is scheduled to appear in Peace River court Nov. 28.
