Pedro Pascal’s 3 Siblings: All About Javiera, Nicolás and Lux
Pedro Pascal shares a special bond with his brother and sisters
Pedro Pascal is known for starring in critically acclaimed projects, like Max’s The Last of Us and Disney+’s The Mandalorian, but he isn’t the only person in his family who’s made their mark in the entertainment world.
The actor’s older sister, Javiera Balmaceda Pascal, is an executive at Amazon Studios and even has an Oscar nomination to her name. His younger sister, Lux Pascal, has more than 200,000 Instagram followers, and she’s appeared in several television series, including Juana Brava. Nicolás Balmaceda Pascal, meanwhile, is the only sibling who didn’t pursue a career in television or film and opted for the healthcare industry instead.
Pedro has a lot of love for his siblings and frequently shouts them out on Instagram. In an October 2022 post, he shared some adorable throwback photos of Javiera. “That’s my big sister,” he wrote in his caption. “Te quiero mas que todo el universo." (“I love you more than the entire universe" in English.)
Here's everything to know about Pedro Pascal's siblings — Javiera Balmaceda Pascal, Lux Pascal and Nicolás Balmaceda Pascal — and their relationship with the actor.
Their family is from Chile
Pedro and his siblings’ parents, Verónica Pascal and José Balmaceda, participated in the opposition movement against Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet. The actor and Javiera were born in Santiago, Chile, before their family fled the country and moved to Denmark, and then San Antonio, Texas. They later settled in Orange County, California, which is where the Game of Thrones star was raised.
Eventually, Lux and Nicolás moved back to Chile with their parents. When Pedro returned for visits, he discovered that his little sister was running the home.
“She ruled the household right away,” he told Esquire in an April 2023 interview. “When my older sister and I would visit, we were like intruders. Our mother was her mother, but for us to think that we were entitled to this woman’s attention in any way was absurd.”
Pedro spoke about Chile and his family during his February 2023 Saturday Night Live monologue.
“[My parents] were so brave, and without them, I wouldn’t be here in this wonderful country,” he said. “I have 34 first cousins who are still there. They’re very proud of me.”
He then joked that someone in Santiago texts him “every day” asking questions like, “Can you come to my wedding?”

Javiera works for Amazon
Pedro’s sister is Amazon Studios’ head of local originals for Spanish-speaking Latin America, and she helped produce the legal drama film Argentina, 1985, which was nominated for best international feature at the 2023 Oscars.
“It’s exciting to be part of such an ambitious project that will take audiences on a journey through a pivotal point in Argentina’s history,” she told Variety in August 2021.
Throughout her career, Javiera has also been instrumental in the making of series like Maradona: Sueño Bendito, La Jauría and El Presidente.
While speaking with Glamour in September 2023, she opened up about the challenges she faced when she first started in the industry.
“I started my career in the 1990s, and at that time, I was often the only woman at certain meetings,” Javiera recalled. “I fought for my place, and the most beautiful thing for me is that I now see a remarkable change. At Amazon, I feel solid support, and my team is balanced between men and women.”
Before working in television, Javiera was an investment banker in Chile. During a March 2021 appearance on the Girls Gone Boss podcast, she explained that she “got burnt out” in that position and got into the entertainment business via friends.
Nicolás is in the medical field
Unlike his siblings, Nicolás lives his life outside of the spotlight.
In an April 2019 Instagram post, Pedro introduced his followers to his brother with a candid photo and a sweet caption.
“This is my brother, Nicolas,” he wrote. “He’s getting his PHD in pediatric neurology. He hates attention and he loves doing good. It’s his birthday. To punish him for being younger, smarter, and more handsome I thought I would announce this to the world.”
The actor posted a selfie with Javiera and Nicolás in April 2021 and playfully referred to his brother as “Dr. Guapo” (which translates to “Dr. Handsome”) in his caption.
Lux is an actor and activist
While Lux was still living in Chile, she earned her BFA in acting at the conservatory of Pontificia Universidad Católica. She then moved to New York City to continue her studies at the performing arts conservatory, The Juilliard School, and graduated in May 2023 with an MFA in acting.
Lux is best known for appearing alongside Pedro in the Netflix drama Narcos, and she’s also landed notable roles in the Spanish language series La Jauría and the Chilean drama Los 80.
Outside of her on-screen work, Pedro’s sister is also passionate about activism. In February 2021, she publicly came out as transgender via the Spanish-language Ya magazine. Lux shared at the time that she “advocate[s] for nonbinary identities to have a space in society.”
She added, “We need trans activists who are good, smart, informed and who can be strong voices against transphobia, homophobia and racism."

Pedro was there for Lux when she came out as transgender
When Lux came out in her February 2021 Ya cover story, she shared that she navigated her identity for a while, first coming out as a gay man, then as nonbinary and then as a woman.
“I think if I would have been sufficiently sure of myself I would have transitioned in my adolescence,” she explained. “Coming out of the closet as a gay man didn't cost me anything, but deep down it wasn't who I was. It was only a step on the staircase, but it wasn't me."
The actor told the magazine that Pedro was an “important part” of her journey. “When I officially told him about my transition through FaceTime, he asked me how I felt because I remember that he was worried,” she said. “I told him: ‘I’m happy.’ And his answer was: ‘Perfect, this is incredible.’ ”
Pedro celebrated his sister and her important cover story with a touching Instagram tribute. “Mi hermana, mi corazon, nuestra Lux,” he wrote in Spanish, which translates to “My sister, my heart, our Lux.”
During his April 2023 conversation with Esquire, Pedro was asked how his sister feels about the state of trans rights in America. “I wouldn’t want to speak on her behalf,” he replied. “But she is and has always been one of the most powerful people and personalities I’ve ever known. My protective side is lethal, but I need her more than she needs me.”
Javiera’s children were excited about Pedro’s role in The Last of Us
Javiera’s kids, Bruno and Pedro, urged the Mandalorian actor to secure his starring role in The Last of Us. The actor shared the story during a Sony Creator to Creator roundtable with his cast members.
“I called my sister to tell her about this job that I want badly,” he recalled. “She was in the car driving my nephews to school. And I was on speaker and I didn’t know they were in the car. I was like, having a conversation about this amazing job that is based on a video game.”
As soon as Pedro began to say “The La-,” his nephews knew exactly what he was talking about. “Then Bruno and Pedro were like The Last of Us? You have to get this job!” he said.
They support and admire each other
When Javiera attended the 2023 Oscars for her project Argentina, 1985, Pedro joined her and showed his support. They posed for photos together on the red carpet, and the actor shared sweet shots of him and his sister from the evening in an Instagram post. “Big Sis Energy,” he wrote in his caption.
He also showed up for Lux’s 2023 Juilliard performance of The Who & the What, as well as her graduation ceremony later that year. While chatting with Esquire in April 2023, Pedro explained that being there for Lux is a priority. “I get anxious about when I’ll be back again,” he said. “So I’m just trying to see her as much as possible.”
Lux has a lot of respect for her brother’s talent and taste. In a November 2015 interview translated from Spanish, she shared, “Pedro is an object of admiration for me,” per StyleCaster. “What he says to me is law. Sometimes I ask him: ‘Pedro, did you see that movie?’ and he tells me, ‘Yeah, I didn’t like it.’ I tell him: ‘Oh, neither do I.’ ”
Most recently, she arrived arm-in-arm with her brother for the 2023 Emmy Awards in January 2024, where he was nominated for outstanding lead actor in a drama series for The Last of Us. "DEFINITELY picked up the phone for this one 🖤," Lux wrote alongside Instagram photos of her and Pedro at the event.
