Penn State CB Joey Porter Jr. still available after first round of 2023 NFL Draft

The first round of the 2023 NFL Draft came and went Thursday night and to the surprise of many, no Nittany Lions were selected. Star cornerback Joey Porter Jr. is one of the top players left on the board as the draft heads into its second day.

He’s the top cornerback available and was widely projected to be a first round pick in this year’s class.

Porter would have been the second first round pick in two years, but now will hope to be the second defensive back to go in the second round in the last two years. Wide receiver Jahan Dotson went in the first round to the Washington Commanders last year, while safety Jaquan Brisker went in the second.

The cornerback is not the only former Nittany Lion to not be picked after he was widely projected to go. Former Penn State quarterback Will Levis — who was considered a potential top-five pick in the class — also went without hearing his name called.

Like Porter, Levis should hear his name early Friday night in the second round.
