Perfect Ending: Hilton Head Prep boys tennis wins another state championship

The Hilton Head Prep boys tennis team continued its dominance.

The Dolphins won their ninth SCISA championship in the last 10 years when they defeated Spartanburg Day, 5-1, at Cayce Tennis Center on May 5.

“This is one of the largest senior classes that we have ever had and they really made my job very easy,” Hilton Head Prep coach Clint Aswegen said. I wish them the very best in the future, but we have one year to reload and coach up the next group of teammates to step up and defend our championship next year.”

The championship was the fifth team championship for the school this year with others in girls tennis, girls golf, sailing and boys basketball. The girls soccer team will play for a championship on Saturday.

Hilton Head Prep finished the season with a 16-0 record. Match winners in the championship were Bobby Bart (6-2, 6-1), Drew Rukavina (6-4, 6-2), Louis Hein (6-4, 6-0), Evan Phillups (6-0, 6-1) and Wyatt Harmer (6-3, 6-3).

Bart, Rukavina, Hein, Phillips, JW Moody, Harmer, Hews Goodson and Alex Zhu made the all-region team. Other team members include: Alston Adams, James Aragon, Gabriel Arnold, William Barney, Jack Cozza, Thomas Dowe, Foster Edwards, Miles Heginbottom andCole Mustard.
