Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is on his first official visit to China this week to meet with his counterparts and boost bilateral ties. Chinese ambassador Luo Zhaohui views Trudeau’s visit as “new opportunity” to strengthen the relationship between the two countries as relations struggled under former prime minister Stephen Harper.
Trudeau, perhaps, has his father to thank for China’s willingness to work with him.
In the 1970s, Pierre Trudeau established diplomatic relations with the country, recognizing the People’s Republic of China nine years ahead of the United States.
