Police identify elderly Rothesay couple found dead last week

Kennebacasis Regional Police have released the names of an elderly couple found dead in their Rothesay house last week.

Alberta McGaghey, known as Beth, was the victim of homicide, police said.

She was 77 and her husband, Kevin McGaghey, was 90.

Police aren't calling their deaths a murder-suicide, but they say there was no foul play in the husband's death, and they are not looking for suspects.

The bodies were found in the house on Gondola Point Road on Thursday night.

Kevin McGaghey was born in Atholville and Beth McGagheywas born in Norton.

The husband was diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder — chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, or CIDP — in 1996, according to a letter he wrote that was published in the 2013 spring/summer edition of the GBS/CIDP Foundation of Canada newsletter.

CIDP affects how fast nerve signals are transmitted and leads to loss of nerve fibres, which can impair mobility and motor function.

In the letter, Kevin wrote that he worked in the pulp and paper industry as a supervisor for years, and he described how the progression of his disease affected his active lifestyle and eventually his mobility.

Both deaths are still under investigation.
