Police officer replaces child’s stolen Pokemon card collection with his own

When a young Pokemon fan had his card collection stolen, little did he know that a generous police officer would go above and beyond the call of duty to help him out.

Bryce, aged nine, has been collecting Pokemon cards for three years and he carefully preserves them in a binder, according to Fox8. But they were suddenly snatched from his hand when he was heading to a friend’s house by another child.

“Some kid stole them right out of my hand and he ran over there,” Bryce explained to Fox8. “Then my mom called the cops and they showed up.”

That’s when Cleveland police officers James Grotenrath and Ken Kirk arrived. With the help of some neighbourhood kids, they were able to track down the boy who stole Bryce’s cards.

Although they recovered the binder, some of his Pokemon cards were missing, according to CNN. So Grotenrath decided to do some investigative work at home.

“I knew I had some old Pokemon cards at home,” Grotenrath told CNN. “So I looked in the closet and noticed a binder … I told my sergeant and lieutenant I had some cards I wanted to give [this boy], so the next day my partner and I went back to his house.”

Bryce was completely surprised by Grotenrath’s kind gesture.

“I was number one, excited,” Bryce told CNN. “I didn’t think he was going to give them to me.”

As for Grotenrath, he was happy to see Bryce smile.

“It’s a priceless item, but it’s better to see someone else smile, and in my book, like my partner says, it’s just happy to see a citizen smile instead of always frowning upon us and looking the other way,” the 26-year-old police officer told Fox8.

The kid, who stole the Pokemon cards, ended up having a good “talking to” and according to Fox8, police officers did not file any charges.
