Man dies after police shoot him at North Surrey home

A man has died after being shot by an RCMP officer in a North Surrey home Friday night.

The Independent Investigations Office say Surrey RCMP told it that officers went to a North Surrey home in the 11700 block of 98A Avenue Friday night, after police had been asked "to check the welfare of a male."

Officers found a man in the residence. At some point during the interaction with him, a police officer shot him.

The man was taken to hospital, but did not survive.

Owen Court, spokesman for the IIO, says his organization was contacted by Surrey RCMP at approximately 10:15 p.m. PT.

The IIO conducts investigations where it appears that a person may have died or suffered serious harm as a result of actions of a police officer in B.C.
