Poll: Which Broward high school athlete should be the Miami Herald’s Player of the Week? (Oct. 15)

Broward County’s top athletes kept delivering top notch performances as we moved closer to the fall sports playoffs.

This week, we resume a weekly feature where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week in Broward County high school sports.

Below is a look at the five candidates from last week’s action. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, Oct. 19, around 10 p.m.

You may vote as often as you like until then.

Here are the candidates from last week’s events:

Nylan Maine, Dillard, football: Maine completed 24 of 43 passes for 326 yards and accounted for four total touchdowns to lead the Panthers to a 28-26 win over Plantation.

Robert Ortega, Western, football: Ortega scored three touchdowns in the first half to spark a 56-0 rout of Cypress Bay that put the Wildcats in position to clinch the District 13-4M title.

Fabiana Capone, Cardinal Gibbons, girls’ volleyball: Capone finished with 11 kills and five digs to lead the Chiefs to a victory over St. Thomas Aquinas and the championship of the BCAA Big 8 tournament.

Julianne McCranie, St. Thomas Aquinas, girls’ swimming and diving: McCranie won the 100 butterfly (56.07) and 100 backstroke (57.25), swam the second leg of the winning 200 medley relay (1:47.51) and was the anchor leg of the 400 freestyle relay (3:39.52) that finished second at the BCAA championships. Her efforts led the Raiders to the team title.

Javier Colmenares, Everglades, boys’ swimming and diving: Colmenares was the only boys’ double winner with victories in the 200-IM (1:52.21) and the 100 breaststroke (56.20).
