Popular music festival’s new offerings include new beer, concert at seniors centre

Springtide Music Festival is taking over downtown Uxbridge June 6 - 8, and is incorporating some new events – and a new beer.

The event features 12 venues along a 750m strip of downtown Uxbridge, where both patios and indoor venues will be filled with music and workshops.

This year, Springtide banners will be interspersed with the BIA banners on lampposts downtown. Aligning with the festival’s mission to foster inclusion, equity and diversity, festival founder Tania Joy Senior says they have ensured that the four corners of downtown will remain the home of the four Pride banners.

Along with the new banners, Springtide Music Festival has a new partnership with The Second Wedge Brewing Co. This weekend, The Second Wedge and Springtide are launching a festival edition of 3 Rocks IPA – Springtide Rocks! From this long weekend until the end of June, tap handles at local establishments will be temporarily switched out for the bright and colourful Springtide Rocks branded equipment. Cans of Springtide Rocks will also be available.

On June 4, just days before this year’s festival, Springtide will host a special, free event at the Uxbridge Seniors’ Centre. This event will feature contemporary-folk duo Moonfuits, led by Ottawa-based partners Alex Millaire and Kaitlin Milroy.

“I was inspired by the Age Friendly Committee to introduce a matinee show, and with Springtide’s desire to do more outreach to community organizations and groups, the idea was born,” says Senior. “We will be offering a 1 p.m., concert on June 4, the concert is free to the public and all are welcome.”

Springtide tickets are selling quickly. “Our launch party sponsored by Durham Tourism is nearly sold out with just a handful of tickets left, and weekend pass sales are doing well,” says Senior. The full festival schedule was released late last week.

Senior says that while music is at the centre of the festival, there is so much more to this event. “I always look forward to the incredible music, and the community coming alive in support of our independent downtown businesses. It feels like a huge weekend of connection between the artists, business owners, families and visitors who get to discover our quaint town and where new bonds are formed.”
