Potential thunderstorms to strike over next 48 hours in Tahoe region. What to expect
The Sacramento region is bracing for triple-digit temperatures this week. But first: the Sierra could see isolated thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service.
Tuesday afternoon and into the evening will be “the last more widespread risk of thunderstorms” in the week for the Sierra, said Sara Purdue, a weather service meteorologist.
Isolated thunderstorms in Northern California forecast
Showers and thunder and predicted to start at 2 p.m. into the evening, according to the weather service, and despite the potential, skies will be mostly sunny with highs in the upper 60s near Tahoe.
Some potential impacts to the area can be lighting, brief heavy rain, small hail and gusty winds on Tuesday, according to the weather service.
Weather officials are urging people to be cautious of lightning with their “see a flash, dash inside” motto.
Lightning can strike up to 10 miles away, according to the weather service, which is why they are asking to take shelter if you hear thunder.
