Someone may get their own pot of gold before this St. Patrick's Day!
After three months without a winner, the Powerball jackpot continues to grow. One lucky winner could cash in an estimated $559 million prize on Wednesday night.
The winner would have two options per the official Powerball site: cash in the prize one time and take home a total of $273.3 million; or choose the “annuity option,” be given a singular immediate payment, followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5% each year.
Per the Powerball site, the overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 24.9, while the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.
While no one won the jackpot during the Monday drawing, one lucky person in Virginia matched all five white balls and won a $1 million prize. Monday’s winning numbers were: 1, 3, 7, 16, 66 and a red Powerball 5. The Power Play was 5X.
Meanwhile, one player in Indiana, one in Wyoming, one in Pennsylvania, one in South Carolina, one in Puerto Rico, and two in Michigan increased their Match 4 + PB winnings from $50,000 to $250,000 — by including the Power Play feature on their ticket for an additional $1 per play.
More than 709,000 tickets won cash prizes for Monday's jackpot.
