Prince Louis Asked for a Crown When He Visited TV Show Set

In December 2023, Kate Middleton brought Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis to the set of Strictly Come Dancing.

"Kate and Charlotte are huge fans of Strictly so they were delighted to be invited," a source told the Sun at the time. "Kate took pictures of the children in the judges' seats. She seemed really relaxed and was all smiles. She was polite, sweet and charming with everyone and made sure Louis didn’t get over-excited."

Now, Strictly Come Dancing head judge Shirley Ballas shared what the royal kids were really like on set in a new interview with the same paper. "They are beautiful!" Ballas said of Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. "When they visited we had these crowns on set, so I thought it would be a nice idea to give the little girl a crown, and I got him a nice box of sweets. Then he went, ‘I want one of those,' and pointed at the crown. So we had to go and find him a little crown."

Ballas added, "We have photos, but I didn’t want to post them. I think it’s more private for her. I was just glad she was able to come in and have a great day. They all watch Strictly." The judge also shared that Queen Camilla is an "avid fan" of the show, and after Ballas sent the Queen a copy of her novel, Murder on the Dancefloor, "Camilla wrote me back the most beautiful note, which I will get framed."

The visit to set by the Princess of Wales and her two children was a private outing, so it was not one of her final public engagements before her abdominal surgery in January and subsequent cancer diagnosis. In her message in late March revealing her cancer diagnosis, Kate said "it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be ok. As I have said to them; I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and spirits."
