Puppies found in rusty crate in Pizza Hut dumpster. Now they get a second chance
When rescuers with a Kentucky shelter pulled a rusty crate of puppies from a Pizza Hut dumpster, they asked, “why didn’t they call us?”
The shelter got a call on its emergency line about the puppies and “rushed out to pick them up,” the Bowling Green/Warren County Humane Society said in a March 13 Facebook post.
Five puppies were abandoned in the crate, the shelter said, but only four survived.
The shelter said this could have been prevented.
“Why didn’t they call us or bring these puppies to the shelter if they were unwanted?” the shelter said.
The puppy that died had a broken neck, the shelter said. The break likely happened when the crate was dropped into the dumpster.
“It’s moments like these that break our hearts,” the shelter said.
The four surviving puppies received emergency care.
The shelter hopes to prevent other situations like this.
“You can bring animals to the shelter when you need to, and together we can prevent situations like these by spaying and neutering our pets and advocating for and helping others to do the same,” the shelter said.
Bowling Green is about a 120-mile drive southwest of Louisville.
