QB recruit Ryan Montgomery has USC’s full attention. He’ll visit today for Florida game

South Carolina will be hosting one of the bigger SEC foes on their schedule Saturday with Florida coming to Williams-Brice Stadium for homecoming.

As a result, Shane Beamer invited many of his top recruiting targets to the game. One of those who’ll be in the crowd will be Class of 2025 QB Ryan Montgomery of Findlay, Ohio. He’s the top quarterback target for that class for Beamer and QBs coach Dowell Loggains, and Montgomery and his parents will be taking in their first game at Williams-Brice Stadium.

“We’re really excited to see the interaction with the fans, pregame, during the game, postgame, the whole nine yards,” said Mike Montgomery, Ryan’s father. “I know it’s going to be wild and loud, so I’ve been told. To see that firsthand is going to be super exciting, especially for my wife. She’s coming with us. It will be her first SEC game. The boys and I have been to multiple, but I keep telling her it’s different from games up this way. Super excited for her to take that in, and obviously for her to meet Shane and Dowell firsthand and the other staff members that we’ve been involved with will be special.”

Ryan had a game in Toledo on Friday. From there, the family will drive to Detroit and fly to Charlotte on Saturday morning. They will rent a car and drive straight to USC’s football offices so they can take in everything the Gamecocks have to offer on a fall Saturday.

South Carolina is a tight battle for Montgomery with Florida, Auburn and Penn State. To this point, Beamer and Loggains have done everything they can to convince the family they would be the best choice for their son.

“They’ve just been steady and consistent with us,” Mike Montgomery said. “The phone calls since they’ve been allowed to start talking to him proactively have been outstanding for both Shane and Dowell. He just talked with Dowell earlier today about how the logistics are going to look (Saturday).

“(Loggains) coming up last week was huge. It doesn’t surprise me because I know the priority Ryan is for them. It’s one thing to say it, it’s one to show it. The way that they’ve shown it with mail and calls and texts and visiting, coming up here in the spring and on their bye week — just speaks volumes. They’ve always held a special place in our hearts for recruitment. Now it’s going to be fun to see them in action coaching on the sideline and the interaction with Spencer and the backup quarterbacks and the team as a whole. It’s really going to be special.”

Ryan Montgomery was in the crowd in Charlotte to see the Gamecocks play North Carolina and has seen them on television a few times, so he’s got a good feel for how quarterback Spencer Rattler and Loggains interact and operate in the offense.

“I know they’ve been dinged up injury wise, so given that, I think they’ve played pretty darn well considering the injuries and the youth they’ve had to put out there,” Mike Montgomery said. “I know Ryan is most impressed with Spencer’s leadership skills, just watching him on the field when things go good and when things go bad as well. Also, Dowell gives Spencer the trust to go ahead and make audibles and change calls on the line if necessary and have such a big input on the gameplan is something that really resonates with Ryan. He’s had those conversations with Dowell.”

Mike and Ryan have already been to Florida for a game. They will visit Auburn the last weekend of the month and will go to Penn State on Nov. 11. Mike said there’s also a good chance they will return for another USC game, either for Kentucky or Clemson.
