QEII delays Saturday for Manmeet Bhullar personal effects search

Police say drivers should expect delays on Highway 2 north of Red Deer Saturday as they conduct a search for the personal effects of Calgary MLA Manmeet Bhullar.

Bhullar died on the highway near Blackfalds in November trying to help a stranded motorist.

Lane reductions are planned between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. in both directions south of the Blindman River.

RCMP Cpl. Laurel Scott is asking drivers to slow down in the restricted area and watch out for Mounties working on foot.

"We're asking that they reduce their speed, to follow the road signs, and to be reminded that it's not safe to pull over to the side of the road," Scott said.

"And so we're asking that nobody pull over to the side of the road in that area and just be mindful of the workers in the median."

The RCMP Special Tactical Operations team is conducting a more extensive search for any of Bhullar's possessions that may still remain in the median where he died.

"The family has requested some assistance in recovering some personal items and because of the location we need to help effect a safe search."
