Quebec police seek escaped prisoner in Gatineau

Quebec's provincial police say a man who escaped from a detention centre in Saint-Jérôme, Que., could be in the Gatineau region.

The Sûreté du Québec said Claude Dorion Jr., 36, escaped from the Saint-Jérôme detention centre on Sept. 27.

Police said Dorion was awaiting trial after he was arrested in May as part of Operation Avalanche, a large police intervention in Gatineau and Cantley aimed at dismantling a drug trafficking network.

Dorion is described as five feet nine inches tall and 200 pounds. He has short brown hair and blue eyes.

Police said if members of the public spot Dorion they should not approach him but instead call the Sûreté's crime information centre at 1-800-659-4264.
