Quebecers, politicians out and about for Fête Nationale

There are no shortage of activities going on to mark Quebec's Fête Nationale today — more than 250 events are planned across the province to mark the holiday.

Daphney Colin lives in Montreal's Pointe-aux-Trembles neighbourhood and attended an event at Saint-Jean-Baptiste Park with her two daughters.

"I came to celebrate with my family, my kids, with all other Quebecers this special day," she said.

For her, the holiday, also known at Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day, is a way to bring people together and enjoy the start of summer.

In Montreal, 180 performers will take part in the annual parade that will take over St-Denis Street between Boucher and Cherrier streets starting at 9 p.m.

In Quebec City, the National Assembly hosted a number of activities, including an escape room complete with riddles to solve.

It's also a day that brings out the politicians — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was at an event in Pointe-aux-Trembles Monday morning, and will be in his riding of Papineau later in the afternoon.

Federal NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh is also spending the day in Montreal.

Premier François Legault celebrated the day in his riding on Montreal's North Shore.
