Queen Camilla Wears Pastel Green Dress For Trooping the Colour

Today, the British royal family is celebrating King Charles's public birthday festivities—not to be confused with his actual birthday!—with a ceremonial event known as Trooping the Colour. As per tradition, the annual celebration is centered on a special parade including hundreds of members of the British armed forces and the royals themselves, of course, culminating in an appearance by the monarch on the Buckingham Palace balcony.

For the event, Camilla waved to well-wishers from her carriage, looking lovely in a pale green silk crepe coat and dress from Anna Valentine, and a hat by Philip Treacy. She accessorized with her Grenadier Guards military brooch, and a pearl necklace.

While Charles rode on horseback in the parade last year with Camilla sitting in a carriage alongside Kate Middleton and the Wales children, this year the King joined his wife in the carriage. The change was announced in May, evidently in deference to health considerations in the wake of Charles's cancer diagnosis and treatment earlier this year.

Kate, meanwhile, delighted fans by making her first official public appearance since her own cancer diagnosis was announced in March. It was originally assumed that the Princess of Wales would not be in attendance at the event, as she has not yet returned to official duties, however Kensington Palace released a surprise statement from Kate yesterday in which she revealed that she would be riding in the procession with her children after all. "I’m looking forward to attending The King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet," she wrote.

The palace made clear that Kate's appearance today shouldn't be taken as a sign that she is returning to a working royal schedule, and Kate herself confirmed that her chemotherapy treatment would continue for a few more months.

Earlier this week she wrote a letter to the Irish Guards, whom she took over as colonel of in 2022, apologizing for being unable to take their salute at the parade rehearsal. "I appreciate everyone trooping this year has been practicing for months, and dedicating many hours to ensuring their uniforms and drill are immaculate," Kate wrote, "Being your Colonel remains a great honour, and I am very sorry that I’m unable to take the salute at this year’s Colonel’s Review. Please pass my apologies to the whole Regiment, however I do hope that I am able to represent you all once again very soon."
