The Prussian Diamond Tiara

The Prussian Diamond Tiara dates to the early 20th century and features glittering columns and laurel leaves. The tiara was worn by royals in Greece until it made its way to Spain in the early 1960s. The former Queen of Spain, Queen Sofía, wore the tiara often, along with her two daughters.

When Queen Letizia married into the royal family in 2004, she has worn it on many occasions, including the April 2009 gala dinner at the Royal Palace in Madrid honoring then-French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

The Spanish Floral Tiara

The Spanish Floral Tiara dates to the late 19th century and features a bouquet of flowers set in silver and gold. While the pieces within the tiara are forever bound, each individual element began as another piece of jewelry. Worn as a necklace or as a brooch by previous owners, the pieces were eventually converted into a tiara in the 1970s.

Queen Letizia’s mother-in-law, the former Queen Sofía, wore the tiara quite often. By the time Queen Letizia joined the royal family in 2004, however, the piece became a favorite of hers and has been worn for such occasions as a gala dinner for Chilean President Michelle Bachelet in October 2014, just a few months after she officially became queen consort.

Cartier Diamond and Pearl Tiara

The Cartier Diamond and Pearl Tiara has a more recent history for the contemporary Spanish royal family. The tiara dates to the early 20th century and looked to inspiration from the French monarchy hundreds of years prior to when it was made.

The tiara features both pearls and diamonds. Originally, a pearl was set atop the tiara but was later removed. Queen Letizia wore the tiara with a complementary pearl-encrusted dress in April 2018 for a gala dinner for the President of Portugal.
