Rawdon motorcycle crash kills woman

A motorcyclist is dead after a collision with a pickup truck near Rawdon Saturday morning.

The crash happened just before 8 a.m. Saturday on Lac Gratten Road near Pontbriand Boulevard, about 80 kilometres north of Montreal.

The woman driving the motorcycle suffered major injuries at the scene and was pronounced dead in hospital.

Sgt. Audrey-Anne Bilodeau of the provincial police service said it was a head-on collision.

"It looks like the motorcycle would have kind of departed in the other lane — because it's one lane in each direction — and they were going in the opposite direction," Bilodeau said.

The driver of the pickup truck was not injured but was treated for shock.

Bilodeau said the number of fatal road accidents is up by 64 per cent from last year so far. Last year at this time 14 people had died in crashes involving motorcycles; this year, 24 have died on roads monitored by the Sûreté du Québec.
