Ray Donovan Spinoff The Donovans a Go at Paramount+; Guy Ritchie to Direct
Paramount+ is expanding the Ray Donovan universe, without Ray Donovan.
The streamer on Wednesday placed a 10-episode order for The Donovans, a new hour-long drama “loosely based” on the OG series that starred Liev Schreiber. Guy Ritchie is attached as an EP/director on the quasi UK-set offshoot, while Irish novelist/screenwriter Ronan Bennett has signed on to write all ten episodes.

None of Ray Donovan‘s cast and creative team are involved in The Donovans, which centers on a similarly-named family of “elite fixers” in London whose client list includes some of the most powerful people in Europe. “The Donovans will see family fortunes and reputations at risk, odd alliances unfold, and betrayal around every corner,” per the series’ official description.
“We’re going to deliver a show which provides massive thrills, entertainment and a huge rush of adrenaline for audiences around the world,” said Bennett in a statement. “At the same time, I’m totally focused on exploring real characters, in body and in soul, and I’m committed to writing stories with deep dramatic impact. We’re going to get under the skin of the criminal underworld, in a way which will show you the bone-deep truths of how they live and how it sometimes will – inevitably – impact on our own lives.”
Added Chris McCarthy, President of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios: “Guy Ritchie and Ronan Bennett are the ideal dream-team to create a new global hit franchise with The Donovans. Guy’s riveting and stylish directorial approach combined with Ronan’s captivating and brutally authentic writing will transfix audiences into a wild and twisted world full of new adventures.”
Ray Donovan ran for seven seasons and one wrap-up movie on Showtime.
The Donovans is slated to premiere on Paramount+ in late 2024.
