RBC Heritage Day 3 results: Cantlay poised to avenge last year’s playoff loss on Hilton Head

6:05 p.m. — Cantlay, Spieth once again in hunt for Heritage win

Round three at RBC Heritage wrapped just after 6 p.m. Saturday, and a pair of familiar faces will head into Sunday in close contention for the tartan jacket.

Defending champion Jordan Spieth ended the day 12 under par, claiming the solo No. 3 spot headed into the final round. Just ahead of him is the man he defeated in Heritage 2022’s final playoff, Patrick Cantlay.

Cantlay is 13 under par, one stroke behind current No. 1 Matt Fitzpatrick.

Just outside the top three is a five-way struggle for fourth place. Former tournament leader Jimmy Walker, Scottie Scheffler, Tommy Fleetwood, Taylor Moore and Mark Hubbard all sit 11 under par, well within striking distance come Sunday’s final round.

4:45 p.m. — Dead heat atop the leaderboard as Round 3 wraps

Five golfers remain within three strokes of Heritage’s No. 1 spot with the third round of play nearing its end on Saturday afternoon.

English pro Matt Fitzpatrick roared into the lead Saturday with an excellent 8 under par outing, overtaking Jimmy Walker early in the afternoon. Fitzpatrick now sits at 14 under par for the tournament.

Walker, however, is only one off the lead. He’s currently 13 under par through 11 holes of his third round.

Shades of last year’s tournament are beginning to show, as the final two golfers standing in 2022 Patrick Cantlay and defending champion Jordan Spieth are once again neck-and-neck, reminiscent of the playoff that earned Spieth his tartan jacket a year ago.

Spieth is now 13 under par, one stroke removed from the tournament lead and locked into a 2nd place tie with Jimmy Walker. Cantlay, meanwhile, is close on their tail, shooting 12 under.

3:15 p.m. — Fitzpatrick takes top spot, Cantlay, Spieth tied

The top of the RBC Heritage leaderboard is in upheaval midway through Saturday afternoon.

Matt Fitzpatrick has pulled even with previous solo-leader Jimmy Walker at 13 under par, Chez Reavie and Cam Davis crashed the top three early today and last year’s top two finishers, Jordan Spieth and Patrick Cantlay, are part of a eight-way tie for 4th.

Fitzpatrick and Walker remain three strokes ahead of the deep 3rd place tie, but their lead isn’t safe to assume for tomorrow. Many of the golfers in 3rd still have several holes remaining before their afternoons are done. Scottie Scheffler has closed the gap, shooting 13 under par through six holes.

Savannah native Brian Harman has slipped since the early afternoon, tied for 18th at 8 under par.

1:30 p.m. — Lowcountry lefty rejoins top 10

Savannah native Brian Harman returned to the RBC Heritage top 10 early Saturday afternoon, shooting 9 under par overall through three holes.

Harman briefly led the field after Thursday’s first round of play but was quickly usurped by Viktor Hovland. On Friday, Harman followed up his solid 6 under par first round with a middling 1 under performance.

He played well early in the third round, scoring two birdies and making par once on his first three holes. Harman sits in a tense tie for 4th place with seven other golfers.

Australian Cam Davis is on an afternoon hot streak, shooting 6 under par through 10 holes and pulling within one stroke of tournament leader Jimmy Walker. Davis sits at 11 under par for the tournament.

12:15 p.m. — Keegan Bradley soars to 2nd place

American pro Keegan Bradley crashed the Heritage top 3 Saturday morning, climbing 58 spots up the leaderboard after a 7 under par round.

Bradley sat 2 over par after the tournament’s first day but improved rapidly in the second round. By midday Saturday, he’d bolstered his score to 9 under par.

Four golfers are now tied for second place: Bradley, Scottie Scheffler, Justin Rose and Xander Schauffele all sit 9 under par. No one had come near tournament leader Jimmy Walker’s 12 under par mark by the time morning play ended.

The top 10 began to shift in the early afternoon, however, when Australian Cam Davis entered a tie for sixth place, along with Patrick Rodgers and Russel Henley.

11 a.m. — Early slate brings little movement to top spots

The Heritage top 10 has held steady through early tee times, as no golfer from the morning wave has yet to reach the 8 under par mark to pull even with tournament leaders.

Keegan Bradley stood out early in round three, sinking a hole 2 eagle minutes after teeing off and shooting 5 under par on the day. Bradley’s early morning run improved his overall score to 7 under par and brought him into a nine-way tie for 10th place.

Most top performers, like current leader Jimmy Walker and Patrick Cantlay, who sank a hole-in-one on Friday, won’t begin play until the early afternoon. Walker’s tee time is 2 p.m., Cantlay’s is at 1:30 p.m., and defending champion Jordan Spieth tees off at 1:10 p.m.

8:30 a.m. Round 3 begins

More than 140 of the PGA Tour’s top golfers teed off at the Harbour Town Golf Links on Thursday. Now, just 73 remain.

Weekend play began at 8:30 a.m. Saturday with U.S. pro Jimmy Walker 3 strokes ahead of a dead heat for second place. Walker sits comfortably at 12 under par to start the day, but the rest of the top 10 can change at any moment with three golfers tied for second, five tied for fifth and eight vying for the 10th place slot.

Off the course, Saturday features a lineup of iconic Heritage traditions, like the 4 p.m. Boeing flyover of the 18th hole and the Plaid Nation Games, which will begin at noon and run to 2 p.m.
