RCMP say death of man found on rural road near Medicine Hat was a homicide

The RCMP have released the results of an autopsy after a man was found dead on a rural road south of Medicine Hat on Monday.

The 27-year-old from Brooks, Alta., was killed, RCMP say. His name will not be released at this time.

"There's nothing else that we can add. It's going to be some time before we have an update," said RCMP Cpl. Deanna Fontaine on Friday.

Redcliff RCMP responded to the call at approximately 11 a.m. Monday and found the victim on the road.

"They confirmed right away it was a suspicious death," Fontaine said. "They activated [the RCMP's major crimes section], who took over the investigation and the scene."

Any additional updates will take time to release, Fontaine said, but she added that RCMP are not currently seeking any information from the public.

"We don't believe there is a risk to the public at this time," she said.
