RCMP investigate death of 76-year-old man at St. Croix border crossing
The "sudden death" of a 76-year-old man from Quebec at the St Croix border crossing forced the rerouting of traffic Sunday night for 4½ hours.
Nicholas Dorion, a spokesperson for the the Canada Border Services Agency, said in an email to CBC News that the incident happened shortly after 7 p.m.
Dorion said he could not elaborate because of the police investigation, which is being done by the RCMP.
Cpl. Jullie Rogers-Marsh, a spokesperson for the New Brunswick RCMP, said criminality is not suspected in the man's death.
"The cause of death is still part of the ongoing investigation but there was nobody else involved," she said.
The border crossing connects the towns of Vanceboro, Maine, and St. Croix, about 10 kilometres southwest of McAdam.
"Although there has been service disruption at the [port of entry] following the incident, operations have resumed shortly thereafter," Dorion said in the email.
