RCMP seek information in cyclist hit and run

Drayton Valley RCMP have identified a suspect in regard to a recent hit and run in the community.

Public information officer for Central Alberta, Troy Savinkoff, says that as of Monday morning, no arrests had been made.

At approximately 1:09 a.m. on June 21, RCMP received a call about a hit-and-run south of the waste management facility. A 40-year-old Drayton Valley resident was struck while riding their bicycle on the service road that runs parallel to Highway 22 on the west side.

The victim was assessed on scene and sent to the hospital to receive treatment for their injuries.

Police asked the public for help to locate a vehicle believed to be a silver 2000s Volkswagon Jetta, possibly with a black bumper. They said it would be missing the passenger side mirror, have potential damage to headlights and bumper and possibly a red paint transfer from the bike.

On June 22, RCMP located and seized the vehicle south of the waste management facility.

At this point, the RCMP are continuing their investigation and are asking the public for information regarding the incident. Anyone who may have dashcam footage of the area on June 21 between midnight and 1 a.m. is encouraged to contact Drayton RCMP at 780-542-4456, or through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, or visit www.p3tips.com, or use the P3 Tips app.
