Red Bank woman suspected of burning house to the ground

Lock your doors, Whitehorse RCMP say, after string of vehicle break-ins Thursday night

RCMP arrested and charged a woman Monday after she allegedly set fire to a home and assaulted a police officer.

Police were called to the house on Northwest Road in the Curventon neighbourhood around 4:50 p.m., a news release said.

Red Bank, also known as Metepenagiag First Nation, is west of Miramichi.

When they arrived, police found the house in flames, and fire in the grass around the building was threatening a neighbouring property.

The Sunny Corner Fire Department put out the flames before they damaged any other property.

Police said they arrested a 45-year-old woman later that night.

The woman appeared in Miramichi provincial court on Tuesday and was charged with two counts of arson, two counts of uttering threats and one count of assaulting a police officer.

She was remanded into custody until a court appearance on Wednesday, Aug. 16.
