How Reese Witherspoon and Draper James Are Saying Thank You to Teachers During the COVID-19 Crisis

There is no sector of society that the COVID-19 pandemic hasn’t touched, but teachers have been hit especially hard. With schools closing their doors, many have been transitioning from classrooms to remote-learning sessions, finding innovative ways to engage with their pupils. Like all parents, Reese Witherspoon has been in awe of their efforts and wanted to do something to give back. Her fashion line, Draper James, has been a source for preppy-chic officewear since Witherspoon founded it in 2015. And the brand’s latest initiative puts dresses in the hands of educators. Starting today, teachers can register on the Draper James website to receive free dresses as a small thank-you for their tireless work.

For Witherspoon, the coronavirus crisis provided a teachable moment. “These past few weeks have shown me so much about humanity,” she shared via a statement. “I’m an eternal optimist, so I always look for the bright side of things. And I have been so encouraged by the ways people are really showing up for each other—particularly the teachers. During quarantine, teachers are broadcasting lessons from their own homes and figuring out new remote-learning technology and platforms on the fly, all while continuing to educate and connect with our kids.”

The relaxed yet refined aesthetic of the brand’s pieces aligns with the work-from-home wardrobe and the current preference for practical style. With dozens of styles to choose from, teachers are sure to find something they’ll enjoy. For Witherspoon, the initiative is all about honoring those who deserve it most. “Advocating for the children of the world is no easy task,” she says. “I wanted to show teachers a little extra love right now.”
