Regina's Italian Star Deli celebrates one-year anniversary in new building
The Italian Star Deli, a Regina staple for 58 years, is celebrating its one-year anniversary in its new home.
Owner Carlo Giambattista said the biggest changes have been the difference in space and the new services they have been able to provide.
The new building was built during the COVID-19 pandemic, and Giambattista said the business has been on a rollercoaster ride — first with COVID-19 and then with inflation.
"It's been a challenge, you know, but the playing field is level for everybody," he said.
Giambattista said he thinks the longevity and familiarity of the store is what brings people back.

He said he didn't leave the old store, which was opened by his parents in 1966, because he wanted to — but because he had to.
"The place was coming down," he said.
The new location features a kitchen, where they bake fresh bread and create new sandwiches, and a coffee bar.
The Italian Star Deli's signature sandwiches are authentic to the deli, Giambattista said.
"I don't know how long we will be here but I'm very thankful to everybody for the support."
