Results are in. Edison flag football standout voted Dade High School Athlete of the Week

Miami Edison quarterback Alexandra Harris calls out a play during Thursday’s GMAC championship game against Miami Central. The Red Raiders won 21-7.

Edison flag football standout Alexandra Harris is the Dade High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.

Harris, a senior, ran for the game-winning touchdown in the semifinal round against Killian and later sparked a comeback with another touchdown run in the Red Raiders’ 21-7 win over Central, which secured their third consecutive GMAC championship on April 6.

The athlete is a key reason why Edison is 12-1 on the season and putting itself in position to compete for a Class 1A state title, Harris has run for 603 yards and 13 touchdowns on 45 carries — a 13.4 yards per rush average — and has caught another 45 passes for 708 yards and three touchdowns. Harris also has 117 flag pulls, six sacks and three interceptions on defense.

Next up is the postseason. District tournaments start next week.

MAST Academy girls’ water polo’s Ana Dal Bo, Miami Springs baseball’s David Davila, Miami Beach baseball’s Alex Allocco and Gulliver Prep boys’ water polo’s Leo Isom rounded out this week’s participants.
