Richard Madeley admits he and Judy could never hide their rows while presenting This Morning
Husband and wife team Richard and Judy presented This Morning together for 13 years and had to put their domestic arguments aside.
What did you miss?
Richard Madeley has revealed he and wife Judy Finnigan could never hide it from viewers when they had a row. Husband and wife team Richard and Judy presented This Morning together for 13 years and the Good Morning Britain host admitted they would often have domestic arguments before they went on air. Madeley confessed viewers of the ITV daytime show could always tell if there was tension between him and Finnigan.
What, how, and why?
Madeley made the admission while interviewing guests, retired footballer Peter Crouch and his model wife Abbey Clancy about their relationship podcast The Therapy Crouch. Madeley, 67, recalled: "I remember this, when Judy and I were presenting together every day - if you've had a row you can't hide it."
He added: "So we'd be sitting next to each other and we'd had a massive row in the car on the way to Liverpool to do the show, and not talking basically. And then you'd do the show and within 30 seconds of going on air people will be ringing our phone in room saying 'They've had a row, haven't they?' They could tell."
Madeley and Finnigan have been married since 1986. The pair presented This Morning together from 1988 until 2001 and then went on to host their own Channel 4 show, Richard & Judy, until 2009.
Crouch and Clancy began dating 2006 and married in 2011. They share four children together. In their podcast and accompanying book they discuss the ups and downs of their marriage. Clancy confessed: "We actually filmed a podcast last night where we were actually in a mood with each other and not really speaking. So that's going to be a fun one."
Speaking about how authentic they are as a couple in the podcast the former Strictly winner said: "To be honest, because we film it in our house and my brother and my cousin are the producers, it is a safe space and our guard is down, so I think it just gives it a natural chat." Crouch admitted he forgets which conversations they have shared in the podcast, and which are private.
What else happened on Good Morning Britain?
Clancy revealed she had been upset last Christmas when she told Crouch she didn't want anything - and she ended up with no presents at all.
She said: "I think it's a classic girl thing to do, 'What do you want for Christmas?', 'Oh nothing.' I didn't actually mean it. But I woke up on Christmas Day on the naughty list it seemed, because I didn't get one present." Crouch replied: "It's hard to understand, 'We're not going to get presents this year.' But we are. It's a game that seems to be played that is difficult to comprehend."
Madeley advised him: It's interpreting the coded message, isn't it Pete? If your wife says to you, 'Don't bother getting me anything.' She means the opposite. It's the opposite meaning." Crouch said: "I'm learning that Richard. You know better than me, I'm sure."
Good Morning Britain airs on ITV from 6am to 9am from Monday to Friday
