Rifles, shotgun, ammunition stolen from home in downtown St. John's

Police are turning to the public for help in finding out who broke into a St. John's home and stole several firearms and related gear.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary say sometime between July 24 and Sept. 16, a home in the downtown area was broken into, and three guns were taken, as well as a box of ammunition, electronic earmuffs, a gun cleaning kit, and a laser bore sighter.

Police say they are concerned given the nature of the items, and that they "consider their potential availability on the street to be a public safety concern."

The three firearms are described as follows:

- 270 Winchester Savage Bolt action rifle (serial # G707193), brown with a walnut stock, black barrel and an XT trophy hunter scope.

- Savage Weather Warrior 223 rifle, black composite stock with matte grey barrel.

- Winchester Super X3 semi auto 12 gauge shotgun, black with walnut stock wrapped in camouflage tape.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the RNC or Crime Stoppers.
