River View pounds Kittitas with astounding 7 touchdown passes. Sunnyside wins opener

Sunnyside opened Columbia Basin Big Nine Conference football play last Friday with a victory, beating West Valley of Yakima 27-0.

The Grizzlies used the 1-2 punch of Ethan Avalos and Eli Fernandez to do most of the damage.

Avalos, Sunnyside’s quarterback, completed 23 of 37 passing attempts for 291 yards and two touchdown passes.

Fernandez, meanwhile, was Avalos’ top target. He caught 8 passes for 113 yards and two TDs.

Meanwhile, Cody Diddens added 9 receptions for 75 yards, and teammate Noah McNair added 3 catches for 54 yards and a score.

ROYAL 28, LYNDEN CHRISTIAN 7: In a road matchup pairing state powers, Lance Allred once again led the visiting Knights to a non-league victory on Saturday afternoon.

Allred had a touchdown pass and two TD runs himself, finishing with 176 passing yards and 76 rushing yards.

He fired a 37-yard scoring strike to Case Christensen. But his 34-yard TD run in the third quarter gave Royal the lead for good.

Jared Lee added 59 yards rushing, with a 7-yard TD run; while Jackson Larsen caught 5 passes for 68 yards.

Defensively, the Knights forced six turnovers.

Allred had 9 tackles (one for loss) and recovered a fumble, while Lee was in on 11 tackles.

LA CENTER 41, CONNELL 28: The host Eagles completed their tough non-conference schedule on Friday with a loss.

Connell running back Jackson Forsyth scored on TD runs of 19 and 12 yards in the third quarter, knotting the contest at 28-28 before La Center scored the final two touchdowns.

Forsyth finished with 100 yards rushing on 14 carries, while Eagles QB Carson Lloyd was 18 for 27 passing for 200 yards and two TD strikes.

Those TD passes were caught by Kellen Riner, who finished with 6 receptions for 125 yards. Riner also led the defense with 9 tackles.

RIVER VIEW 56, KITTITAS 20: The visiting Panthers raced out to a 35-0 halftime lead and never looked back on Friday.

Panthers quarterback Hyatt Clark was 21 for 29 passing for 333 yards and an astounding seven touchdown passes.

Trayce Teagle caught three of those TD passes and finished with 5 catches for 95 yards. Austin Eckhart had five catches for 106 yards and a score.

Running back Karson Rawlings added 19 carries for 132 rushing yards.

Defensively, defensive tackle Riley Whitlow led River View with 15 tackles. Eckhart, at free safety, added 10 tackles and a blocked field goal.

ABERDEEN 27, PROSSER 25: The Mustangs hit the road with a long road trip and a non-league loss on Friday.

Trailing 20-7 after three quarters, Prosser scored 18 points in the final quarter before falling short.

Erin Delgado led the Mustangs with 104 yards rushing on 15 touches, as well as 6 pass catches for 63 yards. He had two touchdowns.

Kory McClure led Prosser at quarterback, going 18 for 22 for 192 yards and a TD pass.

LIBERTY CHRISTIAN 74, TOUCHET 44: Charlie Branning had a monster game for Liberty Christian in its 8-man Southeast 1B victory on Friday.

Branning scored seven touchdowns; had 326 yards rushing on just 10 carries (with five rushing touchdowns); caught 2 passes for 46 yards and a score; returned a punt for a TD; and intercepted two passes and returned them for a total of 107 yards.

LC QB Trenten Ralston was 7 for 8 passing for 183 yards and two TDs. Joey Isley added two touchdowns, 2 catches for 86 yards and a score; and rushed three times for 70 yards and a TD.

The Patriots defense was led by two freshman linebackers. Levi Idler and Silas Bjur each had 10 tackles (1 for loss).
