"Riverdale," "Katy Keene" New Episodes Will Air in April Amid Coronavirus-Related Production Delays

Riverdale might have temporarily halted production due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, but new, previously filmed episodes are still headed to a television screen near you. Following the news that the show would shut down filming due to a member of the production reportedly testing positive for COVID-19, the CW confirmed an April return for the series.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the CW announced on Monday, March 30, that the newest episode of Riverdale would air on April 15. For its television return, the series will air its musical episode, which was previously postponed. As Playbill reported, the show's traditional all-music hour was scheduled to air on April 8; it will now air on April 15.

For this year's grand Riverdale theatrics, the cast is set to perform their version of Hedwig and the Angry Itch. Announced back in January, the Hedwig episode had garnered some concern among fans, with Twitter users questioning whether the show would properly handle the musical's LGBTQ+ storylines. Although the show's creator, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa hasn't addressed any of the social media concern, he did previously tell Deadline that the plot of this year's episode would differ slightly from the show's past takes on Carrie and Heathers.

Riverdale isn't the only show returning to the CW with staggered new episodes as cast and crew await a return to work. Entertainment Weekly confirmed that Katy Keene will return on Thursday, April 16 and Nancy Drew will air a new episode on April 8. New episodes of The Flash and DC's Legends of Tomorrow will air on April 21, while Batwoman and Supergirl are scheduled to return on April 26. However, Legacies and Supernatural won't return for now, as production was halted on both series in the midst of filming their most current seasons.
