Over the weekend, the cast and producers of The CW’s hit soapy teen show Riverdale visited WonderCon in Anaheim to talk about Season 1, and just basically show off how much they adore each other. HelloGiggles sat down to chat with them during the con about their totes adorbs relationship. What you see on TV is real, and TBH we’re sad we’re not a party of this delightful family.

KJ Apa (Archie Anders) and Luke Perry (Fred Anders) very realistically play father and son on Riverdale. And, if you didn’t already know, they’re totally charming IRL. Plus, it turns out, their father/son relationship felt natural from the start.

“On our first kinda rehearsal day with our director Lee Krieger, who directed our pilot, we went into his office and he wanted to rehearse things with certain people and we rehearsed one of those scenes from the pilot and it just clicked and good to go from there,” KJ explianed.

KJ even crashed on the couch (by accident) at Luke’s house the other day when Luke was planning to introduce him to his actual son. So basically, they’re adorable. As Luke explained:

“[KJ was] just dropping by to say hey [at my house] and he sat down on the couch and fell asleep. I mean, just fell over, crashed out on the couch that’s in my back yard and then my son came over and I was gonna like introduce him for the first time and I was like…that’s KJ right there.”

And what’s on the horizon for the Anders family? Archie’s mom is also set to show up in Riverdale, played by none other than teen icon Molly Ringwald. While we’re all psyched for that, Luke himself is pretty psyched.

“[Molly] came in and [her and KJ] were…I thought they were pretty great together.”

Those in attendance at the Wonder-Con panel got a quick sneak peek during a Season 1 sizzle reel (literally three seconds) and the excitement is overflowing. Archie is basically the luckiest kid ever. But Archie and Fred will always be father/son #RelationshipGoals. KJ agrees.

“[Archie and Fred’s] relationship on the show is the only, kind of, solid one in terms of one of the kids and one of the parents. I enjoy that part of it and I do think that our dynamic is different in that way to everyone else’s. Because, at the end of the day when Archie gets home, Fred is his guy that he talks to. Although they do have different opinions on different things and get into arguments, they’re always there for each other. Full-stop.”

Awwwww. There’s plenty of father-son bonding over the rest of Season 1 and in Season 2 as well so make sure to catch up. Riverdale airs Thursdays on The CW.
