Royal Ascot tips: Continuous can make winning reappearance on Saturday

Our horse racing tipster gives his best bets for the fifth and final day of this year’s Royal Ascot.

2.30pm, Chesham Stakes: Age Of Gold

A two-year-old colt out of Frankel, Age Of Gold was a pricey purchase for the Godolphin team, setting them back €625,000 euros as yearling but has wasted little time paying back that sum by winning on debut a month ago at Yarmouth.

Slowly into stride, he managed to latch on to the back of the field before making smooth gradual headway to be just behind the leaders from two furlongs out and then stayed on well when required. Stepping up to 7f should help him improve further as he looks to remain undefeated.

3.05pm, Hardwicke Stakes: Continuous

Four-year-old colt for the Aiden O’Brien yard, Continuous holds by far the best form of the field. Second here last year in the King Edward VII Stakes, which is the three-year-old equivalent of this race. He found a powerful and on-form King Of Steel too good that day but was well clear of the rest.

He has only gone from strength to strength since, winning the Great Voltigeur at York and the St Ledger at Doncaster, with plenty in hand on both occasions, before coming fifth in the Prix de L’arc de Triomphe at the end of last season. There are however slight concerns for this race, given that he has not yet had a run this year. That being said, if he is any where near his best then he should win this comfortably.

5.05pm, Wokingham Stakes: Unequal Love e/w

With as many as eight places available from online bookies, an impressive, consistent performer who should hit the frame- is the target. A four-year-old filly for the William Haggas yard, Unequal Love, who has been running in Class 1 company, reverts back to handicap company for this race and is of real interest.

She has five career wins to her name, the best being in her penultimate start at Newmarket where she stayed on well to win a listed race fairly comfortably. The form of that race is good, with the second-placed horse Funny Story only narrowly being denied since. Not disgraced when fifth in the Greenlands Stakes at the Curragh last month, she stands every chance of returning to winning ways here.
