Russia attacks six Ukrainian oblasts in effort to cripple Ukraine's electricity infrastructure
Russia targeted electricity generation and transport facilities in six oblasts in a mass missile attack overnight on May 8, Ukraine's Energy Minister, Herman Halushchenko, reported on Facebook.
Electricity generation and transport facilities in the Poltava, Kirovohrad, Zaporizhzhya, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Vinnytsia oblasts were attacked, he said.
“Damages inflicted are being clarified," he said.
"Energy engineers are already working at the sites."
Russia continues to try to deprive Ukrainians of the opportunity to produce and transport sufficient electricity, Halushchenko said.

Reducing electricity consumption is a crucial way for everyone to contribute to Ukraine’s victory, Halushchenko said.
He highlighted the paramount importance of responsible electricity consumption, stressing that the morning and evening hours see the highest burden.

An air raid alert was declared in a range of Ukrainian oblasts on May 7 due to the threat of a new Russian attack.
Russia attacked Kyiv with cruise missiles from different directions. The capital's air defense systems destroyed all targets.
A fire broke out at an energy infrastructure facility in Poltava Oblast as a result of the attack.
Vinnytsia Oblast’s authorities also reported a hit.
