Ryan Reynolds Brought His Mom to The View Because She Wanted to Go to The View

When my parents visit, I like to take them to a diner where they pay for our meal. Ryan Reynolds arranges for his parents to see their favorite shows taped live. To-may-to, to-mah-to.

The Deadpool star and his mom, Tammy Reynolds, popped up in the audience at a recent taping of the current events chat show The View, and there was a simple explanation behind their appearance: Tammy loves The View.

“Just out of curiosity, because this isn’t a thing that happens often…how come?” cohost Whoopi Goldberg asked the actor, who sported a fun cowboy sweater (and, yes, had a microphone on, as did his mom—they knew they'd be asked). Reynolds explained that his mom, who lives in Vancouver, was in New York to visit her grandkids (he has four children with Blake Lively, which you already knew).

“Yesterday she said, ‘It’s my dream to go to The View,’” Reynolds recalled, before joking about his mom being abusive: “First off, I try to do what she says because you don’t know what she’s capable of. Unspeakable violence, my whole life. I didn’t want to taste the back of her hand, so I said, ‘Let’s go to The View!’” We totally get what he meant, but dude, that's a weird thing to joke about.

“So we made a call. I told them, ‘I’m Blake’s husband’…and here we are,” said Reynolds. His mother is a huge fan of the show and watches every day, which the hosts appreciated, while Ryan Reynolds promised he would try to get his wife to make an appearance. It would actually be just the place to promote her upcoming adaptation of It Ends With Us.

If you're planning a trip to the Big Apple with a View superfan, but you're not a celebrity, you can request tickets to a taping here.
