Sacramento-area casino buys 20 acres. Is a big expansion in the cards?
The tribe that owns Sky River Casino in Elk Grove has purchased 20 acres adjacent to the property.
Wilton Rancheria officials said they have not finalized plans for the land. However, at the casino’s groundbreaking in 2021, officials said they one day planned to add a 300-room hotel, as well as a pool, spa and entertainment center to the property near Highway 99.
The land is to the north of the casino on Stockton Boulevard. It is currently zoned for commercial and retail uses, Wilton Rancheria officials said in a news release.
“Today, as we embark on this historic land purchase, we honor not only our past, but also the future. In acquiring this land, we sow the seeds of prosperity for seven generations to come,” said Jesus Tarango, Wilton Rancheria Chairman.
The $400 million, 100,000-square-foot Sky River opened in August 2022 and is the closest casino to Sacramento’s urban center. The region has become a crowded casino market, with other major gaming centers within a short drive, including Thunder Valley near Lincoln and Red Hawk in Shingle Springs.
