These Sacramento streets will close for St. Patrick’s Day fun. Here’s your traffic guide

The St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival will return to the Old Sacramento Waterfront this weekend, bringing road closures to several Sacramento streets.

The annual event — a parade, live entertainment, vendors, outdoor beer gardens and leprechaun scavenger hunts — will make the area packed and busy from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday. To avoid being an aggravated driver or participant, know which streets to avoid and how to get to the function.

Here’s what to know:

Parking at the Old Sacramento Waterfront

If you plan to join the festivities at the Old Sacramento Waterfront, you have a couple of options for getting there.

Drive

Metered parking is available around the Old Sacramento Waterfront. As you can imagine, finding a parking space will be difficult and your spot will only be good for two hours before you run the risk of being ticketed.

Surface lot parking is available at Front Street and L Street, Old Sacramento Waterfront wrote on its website.

Your last option is to park in one of the two nearby parking garages. Here are the details:

Old Sacramento Garage

Enter on I Street between Third Street and Second Street.

Tower Bridge Garage

Enter off of Capitol Mall at Neasham Circle near the Tower Bridge.

Rideshare

Old Sacramento Waterfront suggests the following rideshare drop-off locations, all roughly a five-minute walk from the festival:

  • On the east side of Fourth Street between L Street and Capitol Mall

  • On the north side of J Street between Third Street and Fifth Street

  • On I Street between Seventh Street and Eighth Street

Remember: Rideshare prices typically surge when the demand for rides outweighs the number of available drivers.

Bus

Take the bus and get to the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival for free.

Downtown Sacramento Partnership collaborated with Sacramento Regional Transit to give residents free rides on Saturday to the event, Old Sacramento Waterfront wrote.

Just print or screenshot the flyer to show the bus driver when you board.

Valet parking

Some businesses offer valet parking around Old Sacramento Waterfront.

Walk

Of course, you can walk to the festival for free.
