“The Sandlot” Actor Thomas Guiry Jailed After Allegedly Throwing Dumbbell at Neighbor's Jeep

Guiry was charged with third-degree assault and battery and malicious injury to personal property on June 2 in South Carolina

Thomas Guiry, the actor best known for his role as Scotty Smalls in 1993’s The Sandlot, was arrested on June 2 in Horry County, S.C.

The 43-year-old actor was charged with third-degree assault and battery and malicious injury to personal property, according to Horry County Sheriff’s Department online records. He was released from jail on June 3 after posting a bond totaling $1,000.

PEOPLE has reached out to the Horry County Sheriff’s Department and a representative for Guiry for comment.

According to The Sun News and WMBF News in Myrtle Beach, an incident report indicates officers answered a disturbance call encountered Guiry and a neighbor. The latter reported that Guiry had trespassed onto his property and damaged a Jeep’s windshield by using a 35-pound dumbbell weight.

“That sucks, man, I’ll pay you back, I’m sorry, I’m gonna get you back,” Guiry allegedly told his neighbor, per the police report. The neighbor also claimed to the officer that the actor approached his door, ringing the doorbell while showing a knife.

"I did it,” Guiry admitted to the officer per the police report, repeating “I'm sorry” to the neighbor. He was then arrested and transported to J. Reuben Long Detention Center.

In a video obtained by TMZ, Guiry appears to throw a dumbbell onto the windshield of a white Jeep, cracking its glass. In another video clip that appears to be taken from a doorbell camera, he seemingly raises a knife over his head after ringing the doorbell.

In 2013, Guiry was arrested at an airport in Houston for allegedly head-butting a police officer after he was told he was too intoxicated to board a plane.

The actor’s Hollywood career, which kicked off with 1993's A Place to Be Loved and The Sandlot, has included appearances in Black Hawk Down, Mystic River, Black Irish and The Revenant.

In 2018, when Guiry was residing in Trenton, New Jersey, PEOPLE caught up with the cast of The Sandlot. "I have three kids and I work overnight at a Whole Foods," he said at the time. "If I'm lucky enough to act I still act."
