Sara Haines says former cohost made “The View” stars 'uncomfortable'
Matt Rogers appeared on the 'Behind the Table' podcast and said he stopped watching the show for a while due to 'anxiety' he felt over the prior table dynamic.
After riling up Joy Behar live on the air for being barefoot on an airplane, Matt Rogers' whirlwind visit to The View continued backstage when the comedian teed up an uncharacteristically shady moment from panelist Sara Haines.
Rogers appeared on the show's Behind the Table podcast to discuss his lifelong fondness for the talk show, which was when the Las Culturistas personality told executive producer Brian Teta that he thought the show made the right decision to fill Meghan McCain's vacant conservative seat with Alyssa Farah Griffin when the show debuted in 2022.
"I really like that the conversations can be had, and without anyone — and I'm not going to name any names — without getting super defensive or personal, so that when you're watching it, you don't feel in a state of anxiety or discomfort," Rogers said, though he didn't name McCain specifically.
While he made his point, Haines cut in to suggest "uncomfortable" was the word he was looking for, before Rogers added that he stopped tuning in to the show for a brief period because of how the prior Hot Topics table dynamic made him feel.
"I had to take a step back from watching it, because I just got anxious at the thought of the conversations that were going to be had. That's not good. Even if you disagree, I need to hear [your point] to disagree with it, and then think about what I think. It got to a point where I was like, are we having conversations here or are we needing to manage each other, looking for buttons to push?" Rogers said, and Haines responded by telling him that "it was as uncomfortable as you received it."
Teta, who joined the show as its executive producer in 2015, jumped in to suggest that the pair could've been talking about any number of people who worked on the program in the past — a sentiment Haines echoed before the trio moved on in the conversation.
EW has reached out to a representative for McCain for comment.
McCain, daughter of the late Senator John McCain, joined The View as a permanent cohost in 2017, and announced her departure in late 2021. She regularly sparred with the other ladies, including a memorable clash with Behar following McCain's return from maternity leave. The squabble culminated in the 81-year-old telling her Republican colleague that she didn't miss her while she was absent following the birth of McCain's baby.
Since leaving the show, McCain has regularly spoken about her time on the series, including on her own Meghan McCain Has Entered the Chat podcast, where she recently revealed that she was "the most miserable" she's ever been during her time on the series.
The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC. Listen to Haines and Rogers discuss former View cohosts in the podcast episode above.
