Sarah Snook Recalls Being 'Too Young and Naive' to Call Out Producer Who Body Shamed Her For Eating Cake
“I eat whatever I want, it’s my own body and my own choice,” the 'Succession' actress said
Sarah Snook is opening up about two instances when she was body shamed as an actress.
In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, the actress, 36, recalled the moment a film producer scolded her in front of the cast and crew for eating the “tiniest bit of chocolate cake.”
Although a costume designer spoke up and encouraged her to continue eating, Snook said the moment left her “dying inside.” She admitted that she never called out the producer for body shaming because she “was too young and naive.”
“That’s the unfortunate situation when a person is in a position of authority taking advantage, mindlessly saying something that could be taken the wrong way and taken on in a certain context that holds with that person for the rest of their life,” she added.

Additionally, Snook told the outlet that she once agreed to alter her diet, believing that “in order for me to be successful, I have to be all the things that aren’t me.”
She said another casting director told her, “We don’t really want you because you’re a nobody, but the director and the writer think you’re good for the role. So what we’ll do is change all of you so that you’re marketable: We’ll whiten your teeth, darken your hair, we’ll give you a personal trainer so you can lose weight and look the part.”
The Succession star, who took home the award for outstanding lead actress in a drama series at the 2023 Emmy Awards, said that she no longer abides by any dieting restrictions that may be imposed on set.
“I eat whatever I want, it’s my own body and my own choice,” she said.
