‘Saturday Night Live’ writer shares how Patrick Mahomes prepped Travis Kelce for show

Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce will readily admit he’s not an avid reader. So imagine his surprise when he agreed to host “Saturday Night Live” and had to spend hours poring over scripts for skits.

My eyes hurt,” Kelce said earlier this year on his “New Heights” podcast. “I haven’t read or looked at a piece of paper that long ever in my life. I sat down for essentially two or three or four hours (and read).”

That was just going over potential skits for the show. Eventually that number was whittled down, but then came another tough chore: trying to memorize the skits in just a matter of days.

Rosebud Baker, a writer for “Saturday Night Live,” shared a little insight into Kelce’s appearance on the show. While doing a stand-up comedy show, Baker was asked for her favorite celebrity story.

It was about Kelce.

Baker shared that Kelce prepped for the show by reading lines with a teammate. The clip of Baker was posted on YouTube and Instagram and it showed a photo of Kelce and Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Considering how close the Chiefs teammates are, it makes perfect sense that Kelce would ask Mahomes to help him prep for the appearance on “Saturday Night Live.”

“He’s a very sweet, sweet guy, terrible at reading,” Baker recalled about Kelce. “He just kept tripping over lines and like the table read was going so long.

“I walked by Travis’ dressing room and I heard him practicing his lines with his football player friend! And I started crying. I’m like, they’re practicing reading!

“I mean, I should have known I was pregnant right then.”

I can’t add the video here because Baker curses, but here is a link to Baker talking about Kelce.
