SC man said he looked at winning lottery ticket 1,000 times. His prize had more zeroes

A Midlands man said he had a hard to believing when he won a grand prize in a South Carolina Education Lottery game.

“I must have looked at the ticket a thousand times,” the man said of his $300,000 winning scratch-off game, according to a news release.

The six-figure winning ticket was sold for $10 at the Corner Pantry on West Dekalb Street in Camden. That’s in Kershaw County, near Exit 98 on Interstate 20.

“I’m the most excited person in the world,” the winner said.

That’s because he said he only bought the Silver & Gold scratch-off game after purchasing another lottery ticket where he played his lucky numbers, according to the release.

The winner will be allowed to retain some privacy, as South Carolina is one of 11 states — along with Arizona, Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Texas and Virginia — that allow lottery winners to remain anonymous.

The Midlands man didn’t say what he’ll do with his newfound windfall, but said the “plans I had are going to happen now.”

The odds of winning the $300,000 top prize in the Silver & Gold game were one-in-840,000, according to the release. Three of the game’s five top prize-winning tickets remain unclaimed, according to the lottery website.

The Dekalb Street Corner Pantry received a commission of $3,000 for selling the claimed winning ticket, according to the release.
