Get schooled with Daybreak

The return to school is right around the corner, and CBC's Daybreak is with you as it happens.

For the next three weeks, the Montreal morning radio show presents "Let's get schooled" — our back-to-school series.

Daybreak host Mike Finnerty digs into some of the big issues facing students, teachers and parents in 2016.

"From tech in the classroom, to school stresses, and whether the curriculum is really delivering, we want to listen while people on the frontline talk," says Finnerty.

"We're calling it 'Let's get schooled' because we hope we are all going to pick up new insights.

The show has already helped out with back-to-school preparations for one organization, the West Island Mission.

On Aug. 13, Daybreak producer Nathalie Walther was on hand to help out with the non-profit agency's annual "sponsor a backpack" event.

The program helps more than 400 kids between the ages of 5 and 17 get prepared for their return to school by providing them with schoolbags filled with supplies for the coming year.

Live from Lakeside Academy

For Walther, it was a chance to connect with listeners and hear what topics are important to them.

Audience feedback is something Finnerty feels is a key element to this special series.

"I hope people tune in, but I also hope they get in touch and share their own experiences and opinions," said Finnerty.

"Let's get schooled" starts on Aug. 23 and runs until Sept. 9, when Daybreak will be broadcast live from Lakeside Academy in Lachine. Mark down that date.

Daybreak airs on 88.5 FM weekdays from 5:30 – 8:30 a.m.
