Sean Murray's marriage is in its final season.
The NCIS star and his wife, Carrie James, separated in March 2024 after 18 years of marriage and she has since filed for divorce.
Murray and James met in 2004 and exchanged vows in November 2005. Together they share two children: daughter Caitlyn and son River.
So, who is Sean Murray's wife? Here's everything to know about Carrie James and her relationship with the actor.
She has degrees in social work and educational leadership
According to James' LinkedIn, she attended San Francisco State University from 1995 to 1999 and earned a bachelor's degree in social work with an emphasis in domestic violence. James went back to school in 2002 and earned a master's degree in education leadership at Antioch University in Los Angeles.
She's a former teacher, entrepreneur and activist
In a 2020 interview with Professional Woman's Magazine, James said she started her first business — PJs by CJ — from the kitchen table in her apartment while pursuing her graduate degree.
"I made silk PJ pants and hosted PJ parties and sold them to my party guests," James said. "This was long before social media, and the only way I marketed was by word of mouth and referrals. From that point on, I knew I wanted to be my own boss."
James then used her skills to help better the lives of children and women everywhere. According to VoyageLA, James joined the Los Angeles School System as a teacher and worked her way up to an administrator at an LAUSD public charter school, eventually becoming the principal.
In 2011, James opened the Prestique Academy of Innovation and Technology — a private school for twice-exceptional kids and the intellectually gifted with one or more learning disabilities.
She's the founder of the Business Relationship Alliance network
In 2015, James founded the Business Relationship Alliance (BRA), a network supporting women entrepreneurs. The organization hosts several events and seminars to aid in its mission of supporting women-owned businesses.
She and Murray dated for one year before getting married
James reportedly met Murray at a social gathering in 2004. The couple dated for one year before marrying on Nov. 26, 2005, in a private ceremony in Los Angeles.
On their 16th wedding anniversary, James posted a photo on Instagram of herself and Murray wearing matching T-shirts that read "Awesome since 2005."
James captioned the post, "Sweet sixteen for us! Happy Day We Tied the Knot @therealseanmurray."
She filed for divorce from Murray in April 2024
After nearly two decades of marriage, James filed for divorce from Murray — citing irreconcilable differences. The couple officially separated on March 18, 2024, according to court documents.
James requested spousal support and sole physical custody of the pair's two children.
She and Murray have two children together
The pair welcomed their daughter, Caitlyn, in 2007. Their second child, son River, arrived in 2010.
On April 26, 2022, Murray announced on Instagram that Caitlyn was joining the NCIS family in a guest appearance on the series.
"I am pleased to introduce my daughter, Cay Ryan Murray, into the on-screen world of NCIS! Cay guest stars in our upcoming May 2 episode, and I couldn't be more proud," Murray wrote alongside a photo of him and his daughter on set.
On the episode, Cay played a teenager named Teagan Fields, who forms a bond with Murray's character as the NCIS team investigates a case involving teen partygoers.
She and Murray renovated their California home together
Murray showed off the couple's home in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE in 2021. Murray and James spent 10 years renovating and designing their family's Southern California retreat.
"There is definitely something about putting roots down because I didn't have that as a kid, in a lot of ways. We moved every two, three years," said Murray, whose father was in the Navy. "So there is a part of me that's like, 'You got your place, your space, your house with your family. Make it yours.' "
He added, "It got to the point where my wife even said to our designer, 'Just talk to Sean about the details.' I totally fell in love with it."
