Sean Penn’s Ukraine Documentary ‘Superpower’ to Stream for Free on Youtube
The Paramount+ original documentary “Superpower,” co-directed by Sean Penn and Aaron Kaufman, is available to stream for free on the official Paramount+ YouTube channel. The documentary will be available in the United States and its territories, including Bermuda, free of charge for a year on the platform.
The documentary is centered on Ukraine’s fight to maintain freedom from Russia after Russia invaded and attacked Kyiv on Feb. 24, 2022. The film spans seven trips over a nearly two-year time frame, in which Penn conducted a series of interviews with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky and others.

The project, which started filming in late 2021, originally began as a piece on Zelensky and his rise from comedic actor to president. But, once the buildup of Russian troops on the border began, the documentary shifted tone. The film became a look at a wartime president and his country’s defense of freedom against the threat of invasion.
“To make this film available for free has been my dream from the beginning and I’m incredibly grateful to so many colleagues for their will and grace to make this happen,” Penn said in a statement. “Ukraine’s fight for democracy is our fight too.”
Fifth Season financed “Superpower” with Vice Studios. The film was produced by Vice Studios, Projected Picture Works and See It Now Studios. Penn, Billy Smith, Sergei Bespalov, Danny Gabai and Lauren Terp also produced. Kate Ward, Katie Peck, Andrew Freston, Bruce Dixon, Hozefa Lokhandwala, Subrata De, Susan Zirinsky, Terence Wrong, Anthony Gudas, Chad A. Verdi and Sasha Cherniavsky served as executive producers.
